Solar panels are steadily getting cheaper and more convenient. They generate more energy than they used to. They need relatively little maintenance, most of which could easily be carried out by most homeowners. This helps to make them more cost efficient. Solar energy is not yet the cheapest way of making electricity. However, you can use it to heat the water of your swimming pool fairly cheaply. There are many options available to you to use solar energy without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
Solar energy panels are much, much cheaper than they used to be. In fact, prices have fallen by 90% since the 1970s. Even still, the cost of powering your house with solar panels is prohibitive unless you plan to stay in your home for more than 7 years.
To decide if solar energy is right for you, consider the following.
1. Verify your energy consumption. You need to know how much energy is required to power your home. you need to put up enough panels to meet your highest consumption levels and hopefully, your consumption levels won’t grow rapidly.
2. Understand how much a photovoltaic installment is going to cost you. The cost is going to depend on the power requirements. The more power required, the bigger the panels. However, you can actually get a better deal with a larger installation than a smaller one. Talk to your solar power installer.
3. Check your Federal, state and local websites and your power company website. Rebates and incentives are on hand to help you reduce your fees.
4. Consider whether your would be better off selling your extra power to the grid or saving it in batteries. The batteries are an added cost that have to be replaced periodically. If you stay connected to the grid, you may be able to sell your extra power to the power company. Check the laws in your state as they vary from state to state.
5. Think about whether the environmental advantages are worth the investment. While it’s not likely that your solar investment will ever pay for itself over the long term, playing a part in the overall reduction of pollution and making the world a better place for your children and grandchildren may help you sleep better at night.
